Sneak Peek: A Little Election

The federal election is almost here - and along with it, a reissue of Danny Katz and Mitch Vane's A Little Election. It's a lovely introduction to politics for children five and up.

One day at lunchtime, Rory decides to become the Prime Minister because then he can do anything he wants. Which then leads to class election...

But can you become the Prime Minister if you show everyone your undies?

Danny Katz is a newspaper columnist for The Age and the Sydney Morning Herald, and is famous for his larger-than-life characters.

Mitch Vane has illustrated many children's books, including the Little Lunch series, A Little Election and The Patch. She hates to draw straight lines!

Here’s a sneak peek inside one of our lovely new May titles, Somebody’s House, written by Katrina Germein and illustrated by Anthea Stead. It’s a vibrant, active book full of questions and wonderings, perfect for early readers.

Best-selling picture book author Katrina Germein writes stories that delight children and adults alike. In 2011 Katrina's book My Dad Thinks He's Funny was short-listed for children's choice awards across Australia as well as being Highly Commended in the Prime Minister's Literary Awards. Aside from writing, sunshine makes Katrina happy and so does swimming in the sea with her three children. 


Anthea Stead is a graphic designer and illustrator who grew up in Sydney's western suburbs. She graduated from Sydney College of the Arts with a BA in Visual Communications and from there designed magazines both in Sydney and the UK while freelancing on the side as an illustrator. Anthea lives on the south coast of NSW with her husband and daughter. Somebody's House is her first book.

What did you want to be when you were twelve, eighteen and thirty? And why?

When I was small I used to spend hours sat on the studio floor of family friend and illustrator, Jan Lewis. I made hundreds of little books complete with blurbs and bio. When I was about twelve, Jan offered to send one of my books to her publisher for review.
